$5 Door Charge goes to the Boys & Girls Club of the Trident Area – Shaw Unit.

On the first Saturday of every month for the last year, Charleston’s only video turntablist crew “The Spaced Invaders” has broken out some big toys to draw crowds to their monthly party, “The Stone Groove.”  Setting up 15 foot projection screens and massive sound systems powered by turntable controlled laptops has drawn both good and bad attention to the party, easily visible (and audible) from Folly Road.

With the new positive energy flowing through the country, they’ve decided for 2009 its time to use their fan base and unique geek-chic style to benefit a different charity every month – beginning this month with The Trident Area Shaw Unit Boys & Girls Club of America, who has been receiving a lack of funds do to the current financial state of the economy.

Attendees are treated to something very special, a wild visual display of classic music videos, remixed and scratched movies with just plain silly antics combined with the 60’s and 70’s soul songs that were used to create the 90’s hip hop sound that is so rarely heard today.  “I looked up to see 50 people staring at the huge screen, nodding their heads with the music” states VJ Scrunchyface Flatbroke, one of the Spaced Invaders.  “It was the same mesmerizing look you see when you put a toddler in front of a TV!”

“The Stone Groove party at the Daily Dose is like partying with your closest friends in another friends’ back yard…Just with giant video screens and some good mood food,” says, VJ Sonar, another member of the Spaced Invaders. “Now teaming up with local charities, we have something people can look forward to going to, have a good time, and feel good about giving back to the community. It’s really a party with a purpose.”

Drunken Negro Face Cookies

Author: Sonar  //  Category: Just Blogging, LOL :p

I heard about this while listening to the Schnitt Show yesterday. I actually couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Ted Kefalinos, the proprietor of the Lafayette French Pastry actually created the “Drunken Negro Face” cookie in “honor” of President Obama, and then tried to sell it to people thinking that no one would get upset. Now, I’m not an Obama fan myself, but calling it “Drunken Negro Face” doesn’t really rhyme with “President Obama.”

Oh and it gets better. Fox News reporter Arnold Diaz went to the store with a camera and microphone and asked Kefalinos about the cookie and Kefalinos’s response was, “I called them Drunken Negro Heads. What’s the problem with that?” Kefalinos goes on to say that, the cookie is “not unflattering. I think it’s a fun face…” He also states that he is not racist because his “brother-in-law is Cuban.” Behold the racial ignorance in the video below.

However, by the time I was finished listening to this moron speak on the Schnitt Show he did apologize and say it was a big misunderstanding. I personally believe he knew what he was doing, but hey I can’t tell you what to think.

Lend a helping hand and shake your rump while doing it

The upcoming Stone Groove event will donate all the door proceeds to the local Boys and Girls Club on 22 Mary Street. It was announced that the chapter was having some very rough times financing the operation and asked the community to help. Well, the Spaced Invaders heard this and decided to turn the Stone Groove into a charity “Funkraiser” for the Boys and Girls Club. It’s just $5 at the door and you can shake your butt to some good tunes, enjoy some good mood food, and go home feeling good about yourself because you helped keep kids in a good after school program instead of out in the streets.

Party is going on at the Daily Dose off of Folly Road. Just look for the giant video screens from the road and you’ll be in the right place. The flyer says from 9pm-12am but the party usually goes on for longer than that.
